Relaxing or Activities
Relaxing or Activities, this is your choice on a yacht charter holiday. Deep Blue Yachting brings you an exciting adventure on-board its luxury yacht “Glaros”. The Greek islands have a rich heritage and cultural sites are scattered throughout the region. Glaros will lazily cruise through the islands. Allowing you to see this culturally rich, historical region in manner that few people can. You can just relax on-board and enjoy. However for those that would like to get a bit more active there are other activities.
Snorkelling is an ideal introduction to the colourful underwater world. It is also inexpensive and a perfect way to get fit. Snorkeling is great fun, easy to learn and an ideal way to build up confidence in the water. Accessible to anyone, young or old, it is an enjoyable activity. Great for getting the whole family involved in the holiday spirit. For younger members of the family, snorkeling is also a great introduction to underwater sports. Most of all, it can be their first steps towards learning to dive. On-board Glaros, your captain is an experienced snorkeler. Furthermore he will take you on an underwater safari if requested. He knows where to find sea creatures, like octopus. Also other crustaceans that are often hidden away, impossible to find unless you know how.
Like the sound of snorkelling? We can provide you with a mask, snorkel, fins and swim floats; everything you need to get going. See the endless fish and explore the marine life in the crystal clear and warm waters of the Mediterranean. Submerged in an endless blue world, you cannot help but admire the incredible landscapes and undersea environments of Greece. A quiet world full of life and colour, ready to share its secrets with you.
Thousands of scuba divers are attracted to Greece each year by the crystal clear waters, teeming with colourful marine life. There is also many caves and shipwrecks scattered throughout the islands. Until recently diving was limited to just a few dive sites to protect Greece’s many underwater ancient treasures. Now restrictions have been lifted. Many new areas have been opened up for scuba diving all around Greece. Except where specific prohibitions apply. See our blog, Life as a diver.
The first time you breathe underwater it is a strange eerie experience. That you will never forget. Furthermore you will be surprised by just how much fun it is. It is so easy to have a go at diving while you are with us. Even if it is your first time. We have all the equipment you will need. For what we call a ‘try dive’.
On a typical try dive you will dive from a beach. After being given advice on how to use equipment, and how to perform certain techniques. To start with, you lay in the shallow water on a beach and slowly put your head under. Until you get the hang of breathing through the mouthpiece. Your captain, is a qualified BSAC advanced instructor. He has over 40 years of commercial diving experience. He is there to make sure you get maximum enjoyment from your first scuba dive. A try dive is also the best way to find out if you like scuba diving. As a result, you may like to take up the sport when you get back home.
If you are interested in incorporating diving in your charter holiday, bookings must not be at the last minute. This is only so that we can ensure we have everything is in place.
First of all if you love beaches. You won’t find a better way to see the most spectacular and secluded beaches. You will visit a different beach each day.
There are many archaeological sites, in Greece. They are found all around these shores. Visit some of them while you are in Greece.
In Greece more than 6000 indigenous plants have been found. Many of them unique to Europe. In fact, this impressive quantity is a result of the geographic positioning of Greece. Because it is located between the continents of Europe and Africa.
There are a large amount of wild flowers. Specifically, Violets, Tulips, Peonies, and Primrose to name a few. From the very small to the very large, there are some incredible trees native to Greece. Including Popular, Oak, Chestnut, Cypress, Pine, Fir and many Olive trees. Greece also has over 115 species of mammals. Incidentally 57 of these are on the IUNC endangered species categories. Including Bears, Wild Cats, Brown Squirrels, Jackals, Foxes, Deer, Wolves, and Lynxes.
Taking to the skies
Greece is home to over 400 bird species, two thirds of which are migratory, which 240 nesting in Greece. The most impressive of these winged animals, in my opinion, are the Greece’s birds of prey. These include Golden and Imperial Eagles, and several species of Falcons. Other birds you may see are: Owls, Partridge, Pheasant, Woodcock, and Nightingales. Find out more about Greece’s Flora and Fauna.
We have several fishing lines for those who would like to try a spot of fishing. Your captain is also very happy to barbecue any edible fish that you catch.
Sailing, Seamanship, Navigation
Should you be interested in the way the vessel is crewed. Also if you would like to help in any way. The captain will be happy to oblige. Take the helm and chart your course. Learn some knots, drop the anchor, or help tie the boat alongside.
Windsurfing offers experiences that you just can’t get from other sailing craft designs. It is also amazing what can be done on a windsurfer. High speeds, Jumps, Loops, Spinning, and many different “freestyle” moves. These could not be performed by any sailboat, jet ski or surf board. Windsurfing is often recognized as an extreme sport. Providing limitless thrills and excitement in a range of disciplines. It has even been recognized as an Olympic sport since 1984. Furthermore organized competitions take place at all levels across the world, including Greece. Categories include freestyle, speed, slalom and wave sailing. These events are exciting to watch as sailors push themselves and their boards to the limits. Both physically and creatively with moves that look impossible. Windsurfing is the fastest of all the sailing disciplines with speeds up to 50 knots recorded.
However, while it can be an intense Olympic sport. It can also be one of the activities, that the whole family can enjoy. Try it, while on your yacht charter holiday. It provides a great physical and technical challenge and is available to everyone while on-board. You can have an active day on the water. Or just sail for fun whilst on holiday with the family. Especially if you have never tried it, now is your chance. The crew will be there to help you get stated. By getting the board ready and giving you your first lesson. If you can already windsurf we have several boards to cater for different levels of competency.
Films and Internet
Finally if activities are not your thing, we have a large DVD library. Therefore you can relax and watch some films. We also have a DVD player if you don’t have your own player/lap top. In addition there is a good internet connection on-board. So you can Skype your family and friends, or catch up on your emails.
Finally, when you book your yacht charter holiday. You will receive a preference sheet. So please mention which activities you are interested in. In order that we can make sure, everything you need is on-board at the start of your holiday.
