You might not know this, but for years and years. The undersea treasures of the Ionian Sea were off-limits to divers. Then, in 1996, the Greek government removed restrictions on where you could dive. The crystal clear seas around the Greek Islands therefore became a haven for scuba diving.
While you are on a yacht charter holiday with, Deep Blue Yachting. You can go scuba diving and explore the world beneath the sea. Aboard the Glaros, we’re happy to introduce you to some of our favourite dive sites. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or a first time novice, We will open up a new world of undersea exploration. That will add a whole new dimension to your holiday.
Learn with a qualified BSAC instructor
If you’re a first time diver, it’s understandable that you might be a little nervous. You will not be expected to just grab a tank on your own. Then be left to go exploring the open waters of Ionian Sea. In fact, luckily, we have a fully qualified BSAC advanced diving instructor on board.
Before rebuilding my motor yacht Glaros, and starting up a yacht charter company. I had a long career as a commercial diver. Working in challenging conditions in the chilly depths of the North Sea. Compared to a life below the oil rigs off Scotland, the warm, crystal waters of Greece are like paradise!
Instructor in Corfu
I also worked as a diving instructor in Corfu for over 3 years. Teaching many happy holiday makers how to make bubbles under water. If you’d like to learn to Scuba dive. Then I will be happy to teach you everything you need to know. The Glaros is fully provisioned with well-maintained Scuba diving equipment. You will soon see, why Greece, is the perfect destination for the first timer.
Crystal Seas are Perfect for First-Timers
My first dives were in murky, freezing cold seas in Northern Europe. Your first dive will be in seas that are a balmy 23°C during the summer months. Crystal clear waters, giving you visibility, extending to around 40 metres.
What that means is that during your learning dives, you’ll be warm and comfortable. Hence you will always be, within sight of enough underwater landmarks to keep your bearings. This comfort and security means that you’ll be fully focused on the excitement of your first dive. With none of the apprehension that can creep in when it’s cold and dark!
As a result of being a qualified dive instructor. I will teach you everything you need to know to stay safe and enjoy the experience. Combined with the beautiful climate, you’ll be able to take a look at some of the breathtaking sights. That put the Greek islands at the top of every diver’s to-do list.
Sea Life and Shipwrecks – Memories That Will Last a Lifetime
Once you have been shown the ropes, you’ll be raring to go. Luckily, your cruise will take you to some of Europe’s greatest Scuba spots. If you want to view some maritime history, there are plenty of interesting and atmospheric shipwrecks to view. From ancient Roman and Greek vessels to reminders of World War Two’s effects on Greece.
While the man-made sights can be interesting, it’s the Ionian sea’s natural beauty that will thrill and excite you. Sheer walls, overhangs and caves around Kefalonia are a haven for divers. While Zante is home to a wonderful array of underwater wildlife. You’ll see octopus, eels, and if you’re very lucky you can even spot one of the area’s native sea turtles! Rest assured that while on your Greek island cruse. You will only ever be a short dive away from sights and memories that will last for a lifetime.
