The Glaros, our beautiful and luxurious ocean-faring vessel. She can be found in many different places depending on the time of year or even day. Sometimes, she’ll be anchored up in a bay off the coast of a deserted island. Other times she’ll be tucked away in the port of a bustling coastal town. But one thing you can always count on. Is that she’ll be returning to her home, Lefkada. It is from this island that we set off from, and finish, all of our voyages. Discover Lefkada’s best hiking trails, while you are with us.
A quick guide to Lefkada’s
best hiking trails.
So, when visiting us for a trip, you’ll be spending some time on the island. For some it might only be a short amount of time, but for others who decide to stay on land a little longer before or after venturing out onto the waves with us, there are plenty of things to get up to.
Lefkadas Wild Side:
Of all the Ionian islands, Lefkada is one of the quietest. Unlike Corfu, Zante and the more well known locations. It is a serene place to visit, thanks in no small part to its stunning landscape. Considered to be the most ‘Caribbean’ of all the Greek Islands. Lefkada boasts incredible coastlines and luscious woodlands which are perfect for exploring on foot.
The Best Hiking Trails on Lefkada:
While there are many beautiful hiking trails on Lefkada, here are our favourites:
- Melissas Gorge – North of the village of Kavalos, this cutaway slice of natural heaven acts as a makeshift sanctuary for many animal species in Lefkada, and is a prime spot for birdwatchers and lovers of all aspects of the natural world.
- Skaron Forest – This forest is a spot of pure serenity and is perfect for anyone who loves to immerse themselves in wilderness. Home to a rare species of oak tree, it is a great place to unwind and get back to nature.
- Dimossari Canyon – Just outside of the town of Nidri you’ll find an incredible rocky walkway that leads down into the breathtaking Dimossari Canyon. A narrow river runs parallel to the pathway and as you head deeper into the dense forest area, you’ll be greeted by the sound of rushing water. Further down the trail you’ll come across Rachi Waterfall, a stunning location with crisp, fresh water pools that are perfect for a swim.
Lefkada is a beautiful place, but there are so many other beautiful islands that are worth exploring too. If you haven’t already, consider a trip with us aboard the Glaros, for an adventure not soon forgotten.
