Incredible Restaurants on the Ionian Islands.
The beauty of a holiday aboard to Glaros is its limitless capabilities for exploring. As we set sail from the Greek island of Lefkada in the Ionian Islands, why not take advantage of the area and explore the amazing things the rest of the Ionian Islands have on offer?
Able to travel to any and all islands in the region, you can explore and indulge in all the unique qualities each island possesses. They are great for photographers with their beautiful scenery. But, as the day winds down, you might want to climb back aboard the Glaros for a meal specially prepared by your crew, or, if you really want to explore everything the islands have to offer, head off into town and find some of the most incredible restaurants around. There are so many to choose from, but below we have compiled a list of of our favourite places to visit on each of these wondrous islands.
Located up a rather steep hill in the port town of Kerkyra on the north-east edge of Corfu, the Akrotiri Lounge Cafe is definitely worth a visit. As you can probably guess, a steep hill and a port town come together to create a restaurant with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. Sit atop the hill, lounging on sunbeds with a coffee or at one of their beautifully furnished tables with a piping hot meal and take it all in. Don’t believe a view could be that good? See for yourself. This restaurant is an absolute gem very few tourists get to visit thanks to its location, but aboard the Glaros, nothing is out of reach.
This tiny island with a little under 100 inhabitants sits just beneath its big brother, Paxos. If you choose to venture onto this little piece of paradise, make sure you head to the Taverna on Virka beach. Even more obscure than the Akrotiri lounge bar, this Taverna sits firmly on the beach, promising a refreshing breeze, picturesque views and incredible food. You won’t find this restaurant on any website, if you want to experience it, you’ll have to find it first.
Nestled harbour side in the town of Loggos, the Roxi-Bar offers more than just good food and a place to rest your feet. Set upon the very edge of the water, as you eat you are treated to the sights of a bustling Greek harbour. Relaxing, beautiful and unique, another well deserved addition to the list.
You may have noticed a trend here. We tend to like places that not only serve good food, but give a totally unique views of the Ionian Islands beauty. Well, for Ithaca we’re thinking a little different. Located in the bay sheltering the town of Vathi, Libretto, featuring classic Mediterranean cuisine, doesn’t have the views like those above, but what it lacks in scenery it makes up for it food. The dishes at this restaurant and well prepared, reasonably priced and will satisfy the taste-buds of even the most hard to please food fanatics.
For once, we aren’t putting you out near the ocean. Instead, venture in-land on the beautiful island of Kefalonia to the Kastro Cafe, just outside the village of Kastro. Up in the gentle slopes, you’ll sit in its beautiful garden area and enjoy food while surrounded by the elegant plant life of Greece. Its like being in a 20s black and white nostalgic movie, it has such a unique, yet familiar quality, that will guarantee it as one of your favourite stops on the trip.
Another hilltop location, the Aeras restaurant in Vromi, Zakynthos, is a beautiful rustic retreat perfect for a romantic getaway. Complete with stunning food, simplistic design and incredible views of the distance port, this hidden jewel on the coast of one of the Ionian seas most iconic islands also sports the best view in town for sunset. Don’t miss it!
Authentic Greek food, that is what you want when travelling the Ionian islands. Well look no further, because Delis in Kythira town has everything you need. Great classic Greek food with a modern twist, this restaurant has all the incredible food you’ll ever want; at a great price, I might add.
